Two words that sum up Leanne: cats and purple.
Bio
From a young age, Leanne was captivated by animals - especially cats. At just six years old, she got her first kitten, Misty, who quickly became her source of comfort and unconditional love. Today, she proudly embraces her title as a cat lady, and if you know her, you’ll know she wears every shade of purple as often as possible.
Growing up in Colac, a small country town, Leanne often felt out of place socially - but school gave her structure. She thrived in subjects like Home Economics and Horticulture, earning multiple awards and nurturing a love of learning that still drives her today. Ambitious from a young age, she juggled three part-time jobs while still in school and eventually left Colac just before her 18th birthday to chase new opportunities in Melbourne.
Leanne began her professional life as an apprentice chef, a career that would span a decade and take her across the world, immersing her in a variety of cuisines and cultures.
At 28, after years in high-pressure kitchens, her body and mind told her it was time for a change. Feeling lost, she turned to her childhood best friend Tracey - who she’s known since kinder - for guidance. Tracey suggested she consider payroll, and something clicked. Despite having never studied accounting, Leanne took to it like a duck to water. Numbers made sense in a way nothing else had before.
She dived headfirst into learning, eventually completing a Diploma of Accounting in 2007. That same year, she started a new chapter as a junior bookkeeper at Professional Bookkeeping Service. Over the next 11 years, she worked her way through the business, and in 2018 she partnered with Chris Stenhouse to purchase and relaunch the company.
Together, they set out to transform the bookkeeping industry by building a sustainable business model that prioritised people over burnout. Seven years later, their firm has a thriving team, a supportive culture, and a powerful mission: to help business owners understand their numbers so they can focus on what brings them joy.
Leanne’s journey also includes her own recovery from chronic fatigue syndrome - a condition that’s reshaped how she thinks about work/life balance. “Putting on your own oxygen mask first” isn’t just a saying; it’s become her north star.
In 2021, Leanne met Scott Burgess, a widowed father of three who gave her the family she’d always dreamed of. They now live in Hervey Bay, soaking up the beachside lifestyle and counting the days until their wedding and the arrival of their first grandchild.
Of course, no home of Leanne’s would be complete without a cat. Enter Cooper, her fifth feline companion - now 14 years old and just as adored as Misty was all those years ago.
